The UK has imposed significant sanctions on Gurpreet Singh Rehal, a British businessman, along with his associated group, Babbar Akali Lehar. These actions are the first application of the country’s ‘Domestic Counter-Terrorism Regime’ aimed at disrupting funding and terrorist activities linked to pro-Khalistan groups in India. Rehal is accused of having connections with the banned organization Babbar Khalsa International and is alleged to have facilitated weapons purchases, operated online propaganda networks, and provided financial services to prominent designated terrorists, including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

According to intelligence sources, this crackdown is expected to strengthen India’s efforts to dismantle UK-based terror financing networks and cut off funding for activities deemed anti-India. Following the sanctions, Rehal’s former sports investment firm, Panjab Warriors, and Morecambe FC quickly distanced themselves from him, stating he had been fully removed from any association.

Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Lucy Rigby, emphasized that the UK will not allow terrorists to exploit its financial system, describing the sanctions as a landmark action to choke off terrorism funding. Rehal has been identified as an active promoter and financier of Khalistani terrorism, with specific accusations including recruitment, financial support, and weapon procurement linked to the Babbar Khalsa International.

The sanctions have resulted in the freezing of all funds and economic resources owned or controlled by Rehal in the UK, prohibiting any British entity from engaging with him. This includes his associated organizations like Saving Punjab, Whitehawk Consultations Ltd, and Loha Designs. Additionally, he faces disqualification from his role as a director, barring him from participating in the management of any company.

This development is seen as a crucial step in isolating pro-Khalistan operatives and strengthening India’s position regarding extradition and intelligence sharing. In light of the sanctions, both Panjab Warriors and Morecambe FC issued statements confirming Rehal’s consultancy role had been terminated, emphasizing their commitment to governance and compliance standards.
