At BMW Plant in Munich, Rahul Gandhi Points to Indian Engineering Potential, Warns of Decline at Home

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks regarding the decline of manufacturing in India. This criticism followed Gandhi’s visit to the BMW plant in Munich, Germany, where he praised the high standards of manufacturing in Germany while expressing concerns about India’s manufacturing sector. Gandhi emphasized the need for India to enhance its manufacturing capabilities to create more jobs, stating that the current situation in India was “sadly declining.”

In response to Gandhi’s comments, Bhandari accused him of disseminating “fake news” about India’s growth narrative. He argued that concrete data contradicts Gandhi’s claims, highlighting significant growth in Indian manufacturing, especially in the electronics and automobile sectors. Bhandari presented figures showing that total electronics production in India surged from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to an estimated ₹11.3 lakh crore by 2024-25, alongside a substantial increase in electronics exports.

Additionally, Bhandari pointed out the long-term growth trajectory of the automobile industry, noting that vehicle production has escalated from around 2 million units in 1991 to 28 million units in 2024. He mentioned India’s ambition to become one of the top two global auto manufacturers by aiming for 50 million vehicles produced by 2030. Bhandari concluded by asserting that the real economic progress of India is reflected in the data, countering Gandhi’s narrative with evidence of a thriving manufacturing sector.
