Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a magisterial inquiry into a tragic nightclub fire that resulted in the deaths of 25 individuals. The incident occurred at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora village shortly after midnight. The venue, which opened last year, has become a popular party destination approximately 25 kilometers from the state capital, Panaji.
In a statement, Mr. Sawant expressed his condolences and confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the nightclub’s owner and general manager, who are expected to be arrested. He emphasized that this type of incident is unprecedented in Goa, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The Chief Minister noted that all six people injured in the fire are in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical care. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated on the first floor of the club, and due to overcrowding and narrow exits, many patrons were unable to escape, with some becoming trapped on the ground floor.
