On December 7, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences following a tragic nightclub fire in Arpora, Goa, which resulted in the deaths of 23 individuals. In a message posted on X, he conveyed his sorrow and offered his thoughts to those who lost loved ones, while wishing for a swift recovery for the injured. The Prime Minister also communicated with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant about the incident and confirmed that the state government was providing necessary assistance to those affected.

The fire occurred late on the night of December 6 at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular nightclub that had opened the previous year. The majority of the deceased were kitchen workers at the club, including three women, with a few tourists also among the victims. Chief Minister Sawant reported that some individuals died from burn injuries, while others succumbed to suffocation.

In response to the tragedy, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each deceased, along with ₹50,000 for those who were injured. CM Sawant reassured the public that the Government of Goa is committed to supporting affected families during this challenging time.
